Criteria Considered

The committee selecting the recipients of the Order of the Coif Lolly Gasaway Faculty-Student Writing Award considers the following criteria when selecting winning scholarship:

• Submissions must be journal articles authored by at least one student and one faculty member of a member school.

• Student authors must be in good standing at the time of publication as defined by the chapter. An article that was written and accepted for publication while the student author was enrolled at a member school is eligible for the award, even if the student subsequently graduated before the journal issue actually appeared.

• Nominations for the 2026 award must be works published in 2025. 

• Works will be evaluated for scholarship of the highest quality including originality of research, depth of thought and analysis, professional writing, and substantial contribution to legal thought.

  Nominations for the 2026 Gasaway Award must be submitted by July 31, 2026.
